What is IPL Photofacial?
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a versatile light-based treatment that targets and breaks up pigmentation issues like freckles, acne scars, melasma, liver spots, moles, and broken capillaries. It’s an effective way to address areas of hyperpigmentation on both the face and body, leaving your skin looking more even-toned and radiant.
Pre-Treatment: Before your IPL treatment, it’s important to prepare your skin for the best results. Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds for at least two weeks before your appointment, and always wear sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Stop using skincare products with retinoids, glycolic acid, or other active ingredients about a week prior, and avoid waxing, plucking, or epilating the treatment area—shaving is fine. On the day of your session, arrive with clean, makeup-free skin, and let your provider know about any medications you’re taking that could increase sensitivity to light.
Post treatment: After your treatment, take extra care of your skin to promote healing and maximize your results. Stay out of the sun, wear sunscreen daily, and use gentle skincare products to keep your skin calm and hydrated. Avoid hot baths, saunas, or intense exercise for 48 hours, and don’t use retinoids or exfoliants for at least a week. It’s normal for treated areas to darken and flake off—just let them heal naturally without picking. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and follow any additional instructions from your provider. With proper care, you’ll be on your way to radiant, rejuvenated skin!
